Past: Chair as Symbol of status and Social norm

From ancient times, a chair was not only a practical object but an expression of power and status. Chair inherently has a hierarchy from the past.

After Industrialization and thanks to mass production, an object has been democratized. Now we have lots of economical and practical chairs too.

Chair elements that make meaning in the pose

1. Armrest
2. Footrest
3. Headrest height and proportion
4. Backrest height and proportion
5. Height of seat
6. Center of gravity
7. Seat width and depth

Ideation.How might we design a chair that expresses people’s social acting by controlling the height of the backrest and armrest?

Users can control the backrest and armrest height using a lever on the legs. Depending on its height, the proportion of the chair changes.
